Friday 30 July 2010: Wycliffe Bible Translators
Wycliffe believes that every person in the world should have access to a bible in their own language.
David and Tammy began Bible translation and community development work amongst the ‘A’ people, numbering about 10,000, in a southeast Asian nation in 1986. The New Testament in the local language was finished on 30th March 2010. Shortly after on 16th June four major earthquakes struck the region, destroying 95% of the homes. Wycliffe is currently channelling funds to help with the relief efforts.
Robert and Debbie Petterson, were sent to serve the Rumu people in Papua New Guinea in 1984. They dubbed the script for the Jesus Film into the Rumu language. The believer who voice-acted Jesus, formerly a sorcerer, discovered the power of Jesus’ words when he saw the sick healed and demon-possessed set free. Pettersons’ work in translation and literacy has extended to include a dozen other languages in the Gulf Province.
