Ahead Of The Vote: Who's Really King?
Reverend Dr Mark Keown of Laidlaw College joins Andrew Urquhart ahead of the election to discuss how Christians should engage with democracy and politics. He urges believers to vote thoughtfully and prayerfully, while remembering that governments are "ministers of God" under a higher authority: Christ, the true King of Kings who remains on the throne regardless of election results.
Dr Keown unpacks the biblical idea that Christians are themselves "the elect" of God, called as ambassadors of Christ to live out faith, hope and love within their own "electorate" - the people and places God has placed them, whether home, work or community. He encourages listeners to pray for whoever is elected, get involved locally through councils, boards or volunteering where called, and to "lean into their weird" rather than mimic political popularity contests, trusting that God remains sovereign whatever the outcome.
