Is there cautious optimism that Budget 2026, to be announced this Thursday 28 May, will throw out some economic lifelines in a cost-of-living crisis?

Political commentator Dr Bryce Edwards of the Democracy Project weighs up what we know so far about the Government's fiscal outlook based on the 'right-sizing' hat has been announced so far.  He suggests that while the impending reprioritisation of public spending won't be a dramatic tightening of the purse strings, the pressure is on the Finance Minister to extract a clearer economic vision from divergent Coalition philosophies.
