Debating the Death Penalty

Is the topic of capital punishment still a 'live issue'?  Or is New Zealand politically and culturally opposed to it?

Despite having abolished the death penalty, New Zealand and other Western societies occasionally revisit the issue of its importance in the legal system. Family First's Samuel Bilton, a former police prosecutor, posits that, despite the risk of wrongful murder convictions, a justice system without ultimate consequence is fundamentally unjust.

Pointing to Genesis 9:6, he talks to Andrew Urquhart about the eternal consequences of state execution, including the Church's role in inviting spiritual conversion.
