While another cold snap - and possible snow - is on the way, it's unlikely to match last week's bottomed-out temperatures.

 

Analyst Philip Duncan (www.weatherwatch.co.nz) has the latest on a weekend low-pressure system bringing heavy rain to the upper North Island, alongside a returning polar southerly that will drop temperatures nationwide.

 

But as lengthening August days begin to ease winter's icy grip, Mr Duncan says we can look forward to an incoming high pressure system of dry, frosty conditions next week.
