20261123 T&C IanMcinnes

Ian McInnes, CEO of Tearfund New Zealand has just returned from Nepal, where August's flash floods tore down Himalayan river valleys, wiping out homes, crops and livelihoods in an instant.

Ian reflects on meeting a 70-year-old grandmother now raising her grandchildren after her son was buried in a hydropower tunnel, and unpacks why Nepal holds such a special place in Kiwi hearts. He highlights how long-standing local partner Share and Care reached the hardest-hit communities first, argues that Nepal's small Christian minority has an outsized influence by serving people regardless of caste, and warns of the tough trade-off ahead as communities weigh rebuilding on the only flat land against facing the same risks again. When Your Kids Don’t Trust You With Theirs

John Cowen shares his wisdom on how to be a better grandparent, and why this season of life can feel like a second chance at raising children.

Mr Cowen reflects on why grandparents often seem softer than the parents their children remember. He warns that it’s easy to forget the serious side of parenting, to the point where some grandparents aren’t trusted to take their grandchildren out. He argues that modern parents, with more knowledge and support than ever, are doing a fantastic job, and that the worst thing a grandparent can do is side with the grandchildren against their parents. Instead, he advocates for respect, asking before advising, and stepping into the role of coach, encourager and backup.

Two Lost Sons: Rethinking the Prodigal Son Story

Most of us know Luke 15 as the story of the prodigal son. But what if there are two lost sons in this parable? Brett Jones joins us to look at the story from both brothers’ points of view: the younger son who wastes it all and comes home to a party, and the responsible older son who stays and still misses the father’s heart. We talk about fairness, duty, shame, our Kiwi “number 8 wire” urge to earn our way, and what it means to live as loved children of God.

The episode ends with a prayer.
